Plastic Boxes - Fold or not to fold?

Stack nest boxes
Stack nest crates are by far the most common type of returnable container used in the UK. They are found in just about every industry. When empty, the crates nest inside each other and can provide as much as 70% space saving, compared to a stack of full crates.
 Bale arm containers
Stack/Nest crates with foldable bale arms are popular with the UK supermarkets. They are used principally to transport fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy products directly from the producer or processor to the store without the contents being rehandled. The bale arms fold out when the container is full ensuring that the capacity is not reduced when another container is stacked on top of it.
 180 degree stack nest boxes
Other styles are designed to stack or nest simply by turning the crate through 180 degrees. The use of this ‘step’ design enables the containers to have near vertical side walls, improving volume, load capacity and saving space during transportation.
 Collapsible plastic boxes
Folding crates come into their own on long journeys. Five folded crates occupy the space of one stack/nest giving tremendous space saving when transporting empty crates. Coinciding with growth in the import of fresh produce, the use of foldable plastic containers is now a viable alternative to traditional corrugated single trip packaging.
